Cinderella Is Dead by Kaylynn Bayron

Every year, teenage girls living in the village of Lille must attend a ball and get selected by men in order to honour Cinderella’s passing; failure to attend will result in being forfeit. Sophia Grimmins, a queer 16-year-old girl living in a time 200 years after Cinderella’s death, is in love with her best friend Erin. Erin despite also being in love with Sophia, would much rather follow the unjust rules that King Manford has set to protect herself from being forfeited by the palace. After witnessing her friends get humiliated and killed by the king, she decides to flee the ball, risking her life in order to formulate a plan to overthrow the palace and restore the rights of all women in her village.

This re-telling of the well-known Cinderella fairy-tale is an inspiring and thrilling novel that will keep you on your toes. I loved how detailed the story was, it kept a clear picture in my head throughout the entire book, I also liked how the questions at the beginning of the book were answered by the end. I recommend this story to anyone looking for a good fantasy novel with queer representation.
