Tessa Cade is a regular citizen by day and an apothecary by night. Tessa and her partner Weston Lark steal the heavily guarded Moonflower petals, the only ingredient that helps treat the rapidly spreading sickness in the kingdom of Kandala and distribute them amongst the citizens that are not wealthy enough to purchase the petals themselves. Citizens are starting to rebel, they want more medicine, but King Harristan and his brother Corrick, the King’s Justice, are only getting more violent. Tessa feels like she needs to do more for the people of Kandala, so she sneaks into the palace to steal more of the precious petals that the people need while also discovering the royal’s secrets.
This novel is highly detailed and descriptive; you get to know Tessa and Corrick’s personalities very well thanks to the dual point of view incorporated into the book. Though it was slightly confusing trying to keep track of people's roles in the palace, the front page of this story has an organized table of the political leaders in the kingdom to keep the readers on track. If you enjoy reading novels with an unpredictable plot, this might be the book for you
