Red (Taylor’s Version) (TV) is Taylor Swift's eleventh album release and her second re- recorded album to date, following Fearless (Taylor’s Version). Producers of this album include Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. From the first track to the last, Red TV is filled with stellar song writing, vocals, collaborations, and storytelling with an astounding 30 tracks in total. 10 of these tracks are “Vault Tracks” meaning that they had never been released to the public prior to the album release!
Released on November 12th, 2021, this album sets a personal record for the number of collaborators Swift has worked with on a single album, as Swift showcases her work with a wide range of old and new artists. The collaborators on this album are as follows: Ed Sheeran on “Run” and “Everything Has Changed”, Phoebe Bridgers on “Nothing New”, Gary Lightbody on “The Last Time” and Chris Stapleton on “I Bet You Think About Me”. The collaborations on this album increase the level of Swift's album a great deal.
This album was yet another one of Taylor's immense successes, even breaking her own previously held record. Red TV quickly became the most streamed album in a single day by a female artist, surpassing 90.8 million streams, beating “Folklore”, a previous Swift album which had gained more than 80.6 million streams in a single day. Red TV showcases both country and pop music, leaning more towards the country genre. While this album was a hit for her original fans, it also attracted a much larger audience because of the hit track: All Too Well (10 Minute Version).
While Red TV does hold many breakup tunes, we also see Swift using her songwriting skills to create heartfelt songs regarding other issues. The track “Ronan” covers the topic of childhood cancer, as Swift writes about a little boy named Ronan who lost his life to cancer at a young age. The track “Forever Winter” is supposedly about Swift's friend who overdosed many years back. Creating songs regarding issues so close to one's heart is not an easy feat, but Swift achieves this throughout each and every track on the album.
I am confident that any fan of previous Swift work would find great comfort in this album, as well as fans of country music and pop music. If you happen to be a fan of the music by the artists Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray or Ed Sheeran there will definitely be many tracks to your liking on this album! Red (Taylor’s Version) is also the perfect fit for anyone who just loves some great breakup jams, those that will have you jumping up and down in your personal dance party and those that will have you crying, a LOT (but in the best way).
