House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas

“Through love all is possible.”

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life, working hard all day and partying all night, until her best friend, Danika, is murdered by a demon, leaving her alone, wounded, and depressed. At first she is blamed for the deaths but is quickly released when they realised she could never have caused that amount of damage. She falls into a deep depression and feels like she's lost everything. As soon as she starts to feel like maybe she got her life back together, deaths exactly like Danika’s start up again. Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation and she’ll do whatever it takes to avenge her friend's death.

Hunt Athlar is a notorious fallen angel, now enslaved to the archangels he once tried to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength are only used to assassinate his boss's enemies. The only way he can be free is to kill as many people for his boss as he killed in the revolution, but when demons start attacking random civilians, he is offed a deal of a lifetime: help Bryce track down Danika’s murder and his freedom will be within reach. As Bryce and Hunt dig into Crescent city’s dark underbelly they discover things that are far more dangerous than anything they could ever imagine.

Sarah J Maas’s House of Earth and Blood is a thrilling urban fantasy novel that will suck you in from the very beginning. Unlike Maas’s other novels, House of Earth and Blood takes place in the modern Crescent City. It’s super refreshing to read about the relationship between different races (Fae, humans, shifter, and more) and magic in a modern setting. It’s fun to read about their investigation and it's a great crime novel. It also has an incredible romance as well. If you love, fantasy, romance, and crime, this is the book for you.
