 Witchy by Ariel Slamet Ries

In Witchy, the graphic novel by Ariel Slamet Ries, witches roam in the magical land of Hyalin, where the strength of a witch is determined by the length of their hair. Those decreed strong enough will be conscripted to join the Witch Guard, who keep peace during a time of war. This is an honor to everyone but Nyneve, a witch with poor magic and long hair–which she hides–, and whose worst fear is that of being conscripted. But when her worries are realized, Nyneve acts rashly, putting herself in peril. However, these actions might lead her closer to the truth behind the corrupt leader’s actions and her family’s roots.

Witchy delivers a unique fantasy setting filled with enchanting and developed characters and beautifully drawn and coloured images. Nyneve’s story draws you in and leaves you wanting for answers and a sequel! A good read for all fans of graphic novels and fantasy, and a great start to the series.
