*The Wicked King is the second book in the Folk of Air series. Please keep in mind that there may be spoilers for the first book in this review
Cardan has served 5 months as the High King of Faerie, he only has 6 more to go before he can return to his normal life as a prince. Jude Duarte has spent 5 months using Cardan as a puppet to keep her beloved younger brother, an heir to the throne, in the mortal realm so that he can live the life she never did. Everything seems to be going steady, Cardan is enjoying the "power" he has, and Jude is enjoying bossing him around, that is until the rulers of the Undersea send them a letter: marry the princess of the sea or prepare for war. Jude knows the easy way to get out of this situation is to get Cardan to marry the princesses, but what if she can use her mortal ability to lie to spread rumors throughout the Kingdom and keep the High King out of a relationship that will definitely mean trouble not only for her but for the entire kingdom?
The plot effortlessly moves from the first book to the second, and the introduction was so gracefully descriptive that it felt as though I had not even put down the first book. The Wicked King is truly a must-read if you love mystical fantasy worlds as this book is jam-packed with all the magical creatures you could ever want to read about. It is also very fun getting to read from a human’s point-of-view because readers get to read about both the magical realm and the mortal realm. If you enjoyed this book and want to read something similar, I would recommend you read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
