The Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword originally came out back in 2011 for the Nintendo Wii. Fast forward ten years later and it has since been remastered and released for the Nintendo Switch, but how well does it hold up? One of the things that set this game apart from the other Zelda games was how it used motion controls to make Link swing his sword whichever way you swung your Wii remote, which gave the combat a very unique feel to it, and I think they did a great job recreating this on the Switch using the Joy-Cons (controllers). Additionally, they have also added a setting for those who don’t want to use motion controls.
The graphics are also slightly improved compared to the Wii version. The story of this game is one of my favourites in the whole series, with an interesting world, a cool antagonist. It’s chronologically the first game in the series, meaning you get to witness the origins of Link, Zelda, and many other things from the Zelda series. Since it’s the beginning of the series, it’s also a great game to start with if you haven’t played a Zelda game before. The exploration is pretty good, you have a bird you can ride to explore the skies and also three different large areas on the surface with a lot to explore.
My favourite part of Skyward Sword was the design of the dungeons. I think that the dungeons in this game have some of the most fun and interesting puzzles in the whole series. Overall I think this game holds up very well and is worth playing, whether you played the original Wii version or not.
