Frankenstein by Mary Shelly

Victor Frankenstein had a very happy childhood.  He grew up surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Geneva, Switzerland, and was cared for by his very happy parents and very happy siblings. But Victor was different, he had always been interested in the cruel and sinister side of human biology, and so Victor decided to travel to Ingolstadt so he could study more about this special interest. Victor’s years at university only skimmed the surface of what he needed to know, he still yearned for knowledge, and he wanted to learn more about the limits of human life, but that was not enough for him. He craved knowledge beyond what one could learn in a university so he took matters into his own hands and for months he slaved away at a monstrous creation that oversteps the bounds of conscience and would leave him fearing for the lives of the entire human race.

I must say, I do not really have the stomach for horror novels but this book is the perfect mix of horror that I was entranced and could not put it down. For readers who enjoy classics but have a hard time deciphering old English, Frankenstein is just the novel for you as the reading level is simple enough for any teen to read, but complicated enough to give you the classical book feeling. If you are looking for another horror fiction book that is a classic and is similar to this one, read Dracula by Bram Stoker.
