Lover by Taylor Swift (CD)

Lover, released on the 23rd of August 2019, is Taylor Swift's seventh studio album, and her first album venturing into various sub genres of pop. The producers are the incredibly talented Jack Antonoff, Joel Little, Frank Dukes, Louis Bell and Taylor Swift. Lover is an extremely versatile album, containing songs varying from mental health issues, family, heartbreaks, and the feeling of true immersive love. Swift solidifies her position in the pop community with this body of work, while also going on to be largely praised by the music community. The first album under her new record label, Republic Records, was a fresh start for Taylor. Also shown throughout various tracks, her fresh start with Joe Alwyn, who many songs are rumored to be about. Swift went on to break multiple records such as the most simultaneous Hot 100 entries for a female artist and the most simultaneous Hot 100 debuts by a female artist. As well, Lover won an AMA, ARIA Music Award, IHeart Radio Music Award, a People's Choice Award and many more.

To put it simply, listening to the entirety of this album feels like a warm hug after a long crying session. Heartbreaking to powerhouse, this album has it all. Lover contains 18 songs on the tracklist, each meaningful in their own ways. However, a few that truly stood out to me were Afterglow, The Archer, and Cornelia Street. These songs venture beyond the feeling of the basic being in love, or a breakup. The instrumentals in these tracks immerse the listener in a way that truly has them fully listening to the song, catching their attention even when just casually listening.

When listening to this album I am reminded of the uniqueness of electropop, synth pop, and the genre of pop in music. I am an avid music listener with a wide genre of music taste and too often I am reminded that artists tend to misuse these genres, or forget about them altogether. When executed with thought and precision, subgenres like synth pop can be beautiful and extremely pleasant to listen to. Lover truly captures and ventures into these genres in an exceptional manner. I would recommend this album to anyone who has interest in the pop genre, or is looking to venture into the genre. Anyone who needs a good cry, or a warm happy feeling will without a doubt find pleasure in Lover.
