Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Nintendo Switch)

Fire Emblem: Three Houses brings the Fire Emblem series to new heights, with its amazing gameplay pushing you to plan and strategize, as well as its narrative which far exceeded my expectations. For those who may be new to Fire Emblem, the combat is similar to chess, in the way that you are moving characters across a square grid to fight the opposing army, with each character being able to attack and move in different ways depending on what class they are. In the Three Houses I really enjoyed the game because of how much the new mechanics and features forced you to plan and think. One of the new features I enjoyed the most was the ability to make any character into any class. In older fire emblem games if you had a lot of archers in your army, you were just kind of stuck with them the way they are, but in Three houses, you have complete freedom in what class your character becomes, meaning that I could change those archers into mages, assassins, or whatever I wanted, so long as I put in the time and planning to develop their skill levels. I also really liked the map design of each level, they all looked very nice and made each fight feel unique. To go along with the amazing gameplay, Three Houses has an amazing story. The continent of Fodlan is on the brink of war, and is ruled by three major powers: the Liecester Alliance, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Adrestian Empire. You play as a former mercenary, now a teacher, who’s tasked with leading one of the three houses at the Garreg Mach monastery in combat training. Each house is closely affiliated with one of the three countries of Fodlan and depending on which one you choose to lead, it changes the story drastically. Personally, I would recommend choosing the Blue Lion house which is affiliated with the kingdom of Faerghus, as I found Dimitri’s character development and story to be the most interesting in the game. If you love strategy or just want a game with an interesting story, I would recommend this game to you.
