After being inspired by the little giant, a local high school volleyball player named Hinata Shoyo, who was the best player around in spite of the fact that he was really short, decided he wanted to be a volleyball superstar too. On his way to sign up for his high school’s volleyball club he runs into a familiar face. It’s the king of the court, Kageyama Tobio, whom Hinata has considered a bitter rival since they faced off in middle school which ultimately ended with Kageyama’s team crushing Hinata’s, and Kageyama telling Hinata that his last three years of training were a waste. But now, they are on the same team and they’ve got to work together to win. Their first challenge is to display to the team captain that they can work together, by winning in a 3 on 3 against the other new club members. But just how will the selfish setter Kageyama, and the ambitious Hinata figure this out? You can find out in this volume of Haikyuu.
Haikyuu is one of my favorite fictional sports series of all time. Watching Hinata fight the odds and work hard is super fun and inspiring. His friendship with Kageyama is one that is always entertaining since their polar opposite personalities are always clashing with one another, which makes for many funny moments. I feel like Anyone could enjoy this series regardless of whether you like sports or not, because the characters and their growth is just so fun to watch.
