The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer

The Book of Lies focuses on the mysteries surrounding death and its impact on the life of hero Cal Harper.  Years ago, Carl's mother was killed in a fight with his father.  His dad went to prison and Carl was left an orphan and lost contact with his father until one fateful night.  Carl finds his father bleeding from his own gun while he is on his way to the homeless shelter where he works.  Cal takes him to the hospital and he is soon embroiled in a vast conspiracy involving Superman's original creator and the question of what exactly the "Mark of Cain" is.

Meltzer keeps the pace of "The Book of Lies" fast enough that it's easy to follow the flow despite the absurd and insane plot twists. As I said above, “The Book of Lies” is a mystery genre book that you can enjoy easily and conveniently when you're bored, which means it's easy to immerse yourself in and is a well written book.
