Alina Starkov is an orphan and a soldier who doesn’t know if she'll make it out of the Shadow Fold alive. The Shadow Fold is a place where monsters roam around in unnatural darkness. While in there, her unit gets attacked and Alina unleashes magical powers even she didn’t know about. Now she is being trained as a Grisha (magical military) and the Darkling, their leader, thinks she can destroy the Shadow Fold and save the kingdom.
Shadow and Bone is a young adult fantasy adventure book, the first book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. You get to know about Alina, Mal and their friendship from when they were kids and throughout the book. I enjoyed reading this, it had relatable characters and an imaginative world (Grishaverse). I liked how the author started the book with a before and ended the book with an after about a boy and a girl. I would recommend this series to people who have seen the Shadow and Bone Netflix series and want to check out the book it was based on or if you've read and liked this book you might want to try the t.v series. Overall this was a great book and was well written. It was a page turner filled with excitement and adventure.
