“It Takes More Than A Heartache To Break A Girl”
Isabelle is the ugly stepsister who cut off her toes to fit into the glass slipper to win the prince. Isabelle is fearless, bold, she can fence better than a boy and loves horseback riding. But that’s not what’s valued in a girl and so she has tried to fit in, to be pretty and sweet but by doing that she has cut pieces of her heart away making her bitter, jealous and angry. Until one night she gets a chance to forge her own path, to find the lost pieces of her heart and to redefine the definition of beauty.
Set right after the events of Cinderella, Stepsister is a story about Cinderella’s youngest step sister Isabelle. I enjoyed reading this book, it was unique and interesting with lots of twists and turns. Isabelle and her sister Tavi both were complex and well written characters. They didn’t fit into what society deemed proper for a lady as Isabelle was bold, strong and Tavi loved math and science. It had many positive messages that no matter what people tell you to be, always be yourself and a woman's worth shouldn’t be determined by her looks. This powerful feminist fractured fairy tale retelling of Cinderella is bound to be a favourite.
