Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo is the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy. The plot centers on Alina's struggle to restore her strength and free Ravka from the Darkling's control. Character development was great, and the world-building was rich with vivid descriptions of Ravka's landscape and culture. Although the writing was interesting and fast-paced, some of the plot twists seemed a little too predictable. The book also explored the complex relationship between Alina and the darkling and her struggles with her feelings for the Darkling as her awareness of his manipulative and cruel nature grew.
Overall, the story was thrilling and emotional, with plenty of action and twists to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend it to fans of Bardugo’s other works or those who like fantasy with a side of romance, but new readers to the Grisha trilogy should check out the first two books in this series before reading this so that they have a better understanding of what’s going on.
