The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket is the fourth novel in the “A series of unfortunate events” series and follows the story of the Baudelaire siblings and how they land themselves in another unfortunate situation, this time at the sinister Lucky Smells Lumbermill. The mill owner, Sir, and his dreadful foreman, Flacutono, are given charge of the siblings. Foreman Flacutono is really just Count Olaf in disguise and this throws a wrench in their plans for breaking the spell and escaping.
While this particular novel wasn’t the most thrilling one in the series, it did have an engaging storytelling style, in my opinion. And Snicket’s signature humour is there to accompany the misfortunes that kept falling on these siblings, which was nice. The characters worked together and made plans to outsmart their enemy, and overcome challenges, which showed a theme of family and teamwork. Overall, this was an alright addition to the series that I’d recommend to fans of the series.
