The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is set around a girl, Katniss Everdeen, and her life. Except this is no ordinary life. Katniss lives in a society where there are 12 districts, ruled by a government titled, "The Capital". As punishment for a failed revolt in this society, each district is forced to select one girl and one boy aged 12-18 to fight to the death in a themed arena, until one survivor remains. Katniss is in district 12, the poorest district known for mining. Her only care is to protect her sister prim and her mother, who is still grieving over their father's death. Katniss is used to taking risks every day, but will she take a risk that could be the end or leave it and watch her only care come to an end?

This book can appeal to anyone who wants to start reading or to someone who has read 1000 books. I would recommend this book to anyone as it builds reading skills and is very interesting, which can encourage you to read more.

In the beginning of the book, we can learn a lot about who Katniss is, what she cares most for, and ultimately how far she will go for family. As the book progresses, her character does as well. She is definitely a well-developed character that readers can get to know well. I would also say the same with other main characters in this book, so it does a great job of informing us readers on who this person is and what their personality traits are like.

The plot of this book was shocking and filled with a variety of emotions, not just one theme of emotion the entire book, which is why it is so intriguing and easy to read and will surpise you. I think some issues were resolved in this book regarding Katniss, but some things remain, and some things are left hanging until it gets worse or explained in the next book 'Catching Fire'.

The book is extremely well written. It is easy to understand. It is so well written that it will make you feel the emotions that Katniss is feeling with the choice of words and the relationship between Katniss and these characters. This book won the title "Best book of the year" in 2008 and many other awards for a good reason. The many theories fans have about this book is an example of to how much it can make a reader think and wonder.

This book will not just appeal to fans of dystopian books, as it contains so much more traits in this book that can meet everyone's liking: fear, hope, empowerment, and a lot more. It covers almost every aspect of emotions throughout the entire series. If you dislike dystopian books, read this and you will. It is such an interesting concept and not cliche that it will surprise and shock you along the way with many twists and theories about why this person did that or why this person did not do that. This book will keep you thinking and wondering.

If you enjoyed this book i would recommend 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth, which is also a dystopian genre that covers the same themes as this book does: family, fear, and change.
