The Grizzlies is sports drama film directed by Miranda de Pencier, based on a true story. The story follows a group of Inuit high school students in the isolated town of Kugluktuk, who try find hope and inspiration through the formation of a lacrosse team.

 

The performances in the film are outstanding. There was a talented cast of actors who dove into the issues plaguing the Inuit communities which helps create a balance of moments of heartbreak and despair with inspiring and uplifting moments of triumph. The setting has breathtaking landscapes of the Arctic, while also showing the difficulty and harsh environment they live in; however, the pacing of the story feels a bit uneven.

 

With its remarkable performances and powerful storytelling, it's a movie that leaves an impact on the struggles on the Inuit people as well as how we should be inspiring the younger generations and each other.
