“More than anything in the world Rosiland Lang wanted redemption, and if this was how she got it so be it.”
The year is 1931 in Shanghai, it’s been five years since the deaths of Julliette Cai and Roma Montagov and the scene is set for an invasion of China. Rosiland Lang has become a Nationalist spy after an experiment brought her back to life and stopped her from sleeping or ageing. She is invincible against almost everything except poison. Desperate to make up for her past, she works as an assassin for the Nationalist in a time of extreme unrest. When news of the Japanese Imperial army reaches China, she is given a new mission: to try and infiltrate a Japanese terrorist cell and identify members of the cell and stop them before more of her people are killed. To avoid suspicion she must team up with another spy, Orion Hung, and act as a young married couple. She's worked alone for years and finds Orion infuriating but is willing to work with him for the greater good. As they continue to unravel this mystery together a series of murders is happening in Shanghai that they believe are connected to the terrorist. As they dive deeper into the web of deception, they realise that there are more horrifying things happening then they could ever have imagined.
Foul Lady Fortune is an amazing edition to Gong’s Violent Delights series. It happens a few years later and is more about the Japanese invasion then the tensions between different parties in China. It perfectly combines political history with amazing action, even if you’re not a fan of history, you’ll love this book. It combines science with spies and assassins as well as some romance. It’s the perfect mix of everything and can be enjoyed by everyone.
