Maus by Art Spiegelman

Maus by Art Spiegelman is a graphic fiction book about the Holocaust. It follows the story of Spiegelman’s relationship with his father, Vadlek, who went through the Holocaust, and it's about the horrible things Vadlek went through. The reader learns how the Holocaust still affects the father and son even though the son did not go through it. The son is still traumatized and this makes it very sad seeing the continued cycle. This book has been debated and banned in some countries due to the way certain minority groups are depicted. For example, Polish people are shown as pigs and this is very offensive since the Jews do not eat pork. I recommend this book. Personally, I came to understand how difficult it was for the second Jewish generation. Moreover, the difficult moments are balanced by the light moments. I would say this book is for ages 15 and above because of the controversial elements.
