Hawksmoor tells two distinct stories, one set in the 18th century, following the architect Nicholas Dyer as he constructs mysterious churches in London with a terrible secret. The other unfolds in the 1980s, where detective Nicholas Hawksmoor investigates brutal murders happening on the very grounds of these churches.
While this book’s concept is certainly intriguing, overly detailed, complex and inane architectural descriptions slow the pacing of the book to a crawl. Not only can these long descriptions be confusing to the reader, they also serve little to no narrative purpose within the story. However, looking past this flaw and skipping over the architectural descriptions still leaves you with a decently intriguing story.
Unless you are a huge fan of architecture, I wouldn’t really recommend this book.
