Elena Vanishing by Clare B. Dunkle and Elena Dunkle

Seventeen-year-old Elena has a relentless voice in her head that tells her to excel in her grades, wear makeup, be perfect, and above all, avoid eating. As her body starts to break down, Elena goes from hospital to hospital. Soon, she will understand that her conscience is her worst enemy, and to defeat it, she must confront her hidden secret.

This is a touching and honest memoir of the road to recovery from anorexia, written by Elena Dunkle and her mother, Clare Dunkle. It provides a very insightful and accurate account of this life-threatening disorder, not shying away from the gruesome details. I highly suggest this fantastic book for anyone who wants to know more about eating disorders, and it is also a great resource for research and studies.

If you enjoy this book, be sure to give Paperweight by Meg Haston a read as well.
