A Curse for True Love is the last book in the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy. Written by Stephanie Garber, this book is surely one of her bests. This book follows Evangeline Fox in her adventure to the magnificent North, in quest of her happy ending. It appears that she has finally found that happily ever after. She is married to a prince and lives in a storybook-like castle. But Evangeline has no memory of the prince or the price she paid to get there. She doesn’t know what she has lost, and the prince will stop at no cost to make sure she never finds out. But to do so, he will need to kill Jacks, the prince of hearts. Will Evangeline ever find her true happily ever after?
This book is truly amazing with its variety of characters to love, villains to root for or against, and a world to get sucked into. A Curse for True Love is a perfect dark, tense, and beautifully written Young Adult fantasy romance you will fall in love with. I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to get lost in and feel as if it's your own world. This book takes the concept of a children's fairytale and turns it into a wild, addictive, romantic book. This story is heart-breaking and unpredictable, and leaves you wondering what will happen next. This book is great for those newer to the fantasy romance genre, and will absolutely leave you wanting more. You will definitely see these characters develop more and more throughout the three books.
Evangeline, one of the main characters, has grown very much since the first book. You will see her learning from her mistakes and correcting them. She has become a strong character that never looses her faith or determination despite other characters efforts to stop her. Jacks one of the love interests and main characters was such a heartbreaking and tortured character. He knows nothing but tragedy, someone who never believed things would ever go right for him; which leads to him sabotaging all chances of happiness that he can get. This character is purely amazing and it was wonderful to see his perspective in this book. To understand the full story of this book, I would highly recommend reading the first two books of this series (Once Upon a Broken Heart and The Ballad of Never After). The first two books were absolutely wonderful as well and they are fairly necessary for A Curse for True Love to make sense. I thoroughly loved this book and would very much recommend it to any fantasy lovers out there. This book will get you hooked 'til the end. It was unforgettable and would easily rate it 5 stars overall. A similar book trilogy that I would recommend is the Caraval series. It is written by the same author, Stephanie Garber and is as magically addictive as A Curse for True Love. The Caraval series gives the same sort of feel as this one and has several amazing characters with complex storylines attached to it. With a similar wildly addicting plotline, you will be instantly hooked.
