The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a romance with a bit of a fictional historical twist. Written by Tayloer Jenkins Reid, this book is quite the story. Aging hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo has kept her true life story behind bars. But now she is finally ready to tell the truth about it. When she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, everyone including Monique herself is asking why? Why her? Monique is not exactly going through the best time, her husband left her, and her professional life is going in circles. Regardless of why Evelyn chose her to write her biography, Monique will use this opportunity to revive her career. Invited to Evelyn's apartment, Monique listens as the actress tells her story. The story of her time as an actress, her tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship and, you guessed it, her seven husbands.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is mostly told in Evelyn's perspective as she goes through her life again. The characters in this book are some of the most interesting characters. Evelyn is a complex, ruthless character who does what she has to do in order to get what she wants. Evelyn could be awful; and egotistic, but her good qualities made up for it. Compassionate, caring and protective of her loved ones, she would have done anything to make sure they were safe and happy. This book also shows the ups and downs of Evelyn's one sole relationship. Their struggles and fights felt real and it was hard to see them fighting, regardless of them being book characters. According to the author, this book was loosely based on actress Elizabeth Taylor who had a similar story to Evelyn. I find it cool that its based on a real life actress. I loved this book. It really shined a light on various different problematic topics. It was written in a way that the problematic topics were in such a positive and sensible way. This is a must read for everybody. This book is truly amazing and easy to read, and I would definitely recommend. Easily gets a five star rating from me!
