All the Bright Places is a YA fictional romance that explores the struggles of mental health. All the Bright Places is about Theodore Finch and Violet Markey. Finch is fascinated by death and he constantly is wondering of the ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good happens, which stops him. Violet Markey Lives for the future, counting down the days 'til graduation, when she can escape her town and grief from her sister's recent death. Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of their school bell tower. It's unclear who saves whom, but I think they saved each other without realizing. As they start hanging out now, they begin to see more of themselves. Its only with Finch that Violet can forget to count the days away and start actually experiencing them. But as Violet's world becomes more livable, Finch’s becomes less. Both Finch and Violet learn a lot about themselves as they start hanging out more and more. They both helped each other be themselves. They both changed so much from the start of the book to the end. It's interesting to see both of their struggles and how they handled them. All the Bright Places was a heartbreaking yet amazing book. It heavily traverses the struggles relating to mental illness and is an important issue to discuss. Although it may not be a great book for some who have trouble with these topics, it's definitely a well written novel. I would stay clear of this book if you are not comfortable with the topics of suicide, depression, anxiety, and death. Overall, a great book with a storyline that always has you asking “What happens next?”
