Battlefield 2042 [Video Game]

Battlefield 2042 is an action packed large scaled first-person-shooter. There are many different styles of map, each being decently made, but when they are compared to previous games in the series, they don’t hold up well. The game doesn’t really focus on or have a ‘real’ protagonist. After your character dies you respawn as someone else and that's that. The game is multiplayer without a campaign or single player mode of any kind. The gameplay is the same you would find in any other tactical shooter but with a focus on class. This is a first in the series as none of the other battlefield games contained this feature and I honestly quite like it. There is no real progression in the game after you complete your dream loadout, other than cosmetics.

Graphics wise the game is really lacking. Optimization didn’t seem to be a focus of the developers as even with top of the line specs, it is still extremely laggy to run ultra settings. This causes the player to be forced to play with graphics settings that make the game look similar or even debatably worse than Battlefield 4. One of its redeaming features is its soundtrack. It can be described as cold, desolate, and scary. I really like this as it truly reflects the horror of war. The game can be seen as very difficult because of the forced multiplayer and it takes a long time to be better than the average player. The game has many tutorials along with a LOT of material online to improve. There is no real save feature as all EXP and leveling is saved and you cannot leave during the match without it continuing without you. Battlefield 2042 is available on Xbox, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (and is free on Xbox Gamepass) at the library. Overall, I would recommend previous games in the series over 2042.
