"Witness" is a suspenseful crime thriller which follows an eight-year-old Amish boy, Samuel Lapp, who unintentionally witnesses a brutal murder. As the only witness, Samuel becomes a target. The responsibility to protect him was given to detective John Book, played by Harrison Ford. To fulfill his duty, Book takes Samuel and his mother to hide out with the Amish community, where he attempts to be immersed in their peaceful and traditional ways of life. The film explores the clash of cultures, as Book adapts to the Amish lifestyle, while maintaining his duty as a law enforcement officer. As the threat to Samuel increases, the film unfolds with a combination of suspense, romance, as well as a moral dilemma that raises questions about justice, and the consequences of violence.

I really enjoyed the movie, from the mixture of good writing, acting, as well as the setting. The plot of the story was interesting, and used a variety of writing elements which I found made me feel more engaged. For example, the juxtaposition of culture, which we see with John Book’s city life and the humbler way of living, which the Amish are accustomed to. This is well displayed due to the two distinct settings, which the movie takes place in, being in Philadelphia and the Amish community. The plot itself is interesting, especially since young Samuel is the witness and the Amish community are uncertain about what to do. The settings themselves are also very aesthetically appealing, especially the farmlands and homes of the Amish. In general, the story itself is, as mentioned, interesting also due to the interactions with which the characters have amongst themselves.

I would suggest this movie to most people above the age of 14 or 15, as there are some moments in the film which are violent and sometimes explicit. Nonetheless, the movie in general is calm with what they show the audience. The movie can be enjoyed by fans of action films as well as thrillers. I really liked the film in general and would encourage people to watch it.
