Lightlark is a young adult fantasy romance written by Alex Aster. Lightlark is a beautifully written series containing two books. Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the centennial, a dangerous game the rulers of the six realms are invited to play. If one of the six rulers wins the centennial, their curse that plagues all of their realms will be broken. Each realm has a different wicked curse, and something to hide. To destroy the curse, one ruler has to die, meaning their realm will wither away with them. Isla Crown is the youngest ruler of Wilding, a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and counting on Isla to end their suffering by winning the centennial.
The characters in this book were very well made and each one was unique in their own way, having different curses and realms. The relationships between all the characters are so fun to read about, seeing as Isla’s curse is to kill anyone they fall in love with. Isla adds a fun twist on the game, being the youngest ruler, it makes for a fun read with all the other rulers being older and more experienced with the centennial. I really liked this book, its quite a controversial novel but I still really enjoyed it. It was a unique concept for a book, with all of the rulers and the centennial. It was unlike any other book i’ve read, it was fast paced, exciting, and definitely a book i’d read again. There was never a boring part in the book. It kept me hooked till the end!
