The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey

Everybody craves success, striving for significant accomplishments and aiming to be outstanding. But what does outstanding really mean? In his book "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens," author Sean Covey outlines various qualities of outstanding teenagers, such as optimism, proactivity, and motivation.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson puts it, "Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny." This underscores that good habits are the foundational gateways to success.

Covey's habits, as discussed in his book, pertain to mindset and thinking patterns rather than mere behavioural habits. He introduces seven habits along with guidance on how to cultivate them. Breaking free from old habits is not as simple as it seems, given their automatic existence in the subconscious. Many people spend years trying to change, often facing failure. This is why I find this book useful—after each habit section, it offers engaging practices that readers can easily follow. It follows an iterative approach: take small steps, repeat the new pattern, gradually escalate, and soon the good habit becomes ingrained in your life.

While this is undeniably an inspirational book, it sets itself apart. Unlike many others in the genre, "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens" isn't just about preaching. While "Chicken Soup for the Soul" is uplifting, it lacks practicality. This book, however, strikes a different chord. It contains some clichés, but there's no inanity; instead, it's full of innovative ideas and wise insights.

In summary, this book is a worthwhile read—it helps you unearth your hidden potential and understand yourself better.
