War For The Planet of The Apes [DVD]

War For The Planet of The Apes, the third movie in its trilogy, is a 2017 action/sci-fi movie about the conflict and struggles between humanity and highly intelligent apes, and the difficulties of humans co-existing with species they deem inferior. Caesar, the main character and leader of the ape pack, embarks on a journey to find Colonel McCullough, the man behind the war, to stop the hostility between humanity and apes as Caesar is the bridge between humanity and apes.
Although most war movies tend to be slow until the climax, this film keeps you engaged and interested because you start to believe that the motion-captured apes are real; that’s how fantastic the CGI is! Even though this film is turning seven years old, the CGI is incredibly well done and is better than most CGI done in movies today.

Not only is CGI something to be praised, but the acting is outstanding, especially the performance by the actor who plays Caesar, Andy Serkis. His performance is unlike any other when it comes to playing motion-captured characters (he’s the same actor who played Gollum in The Lord of The Rings films.) His emotions are what make him such a great actor as he can be both sympathetic, and intimidating, and terrifying all at the same time.

Woody Harrelson who plays Colonel McCullough and does a great job of being both understandable and crazy; his ideas make sense and logical but in the process, he loses sympathy and empathy for anyone but himself. The story and dialogue are terrific because you understand the two opposing sides and their reasoning for their actions. You realize that sometimes humans are more like animals than actual animals; they’re more aggressive, unreasonable, and cruel. You ask more and more questions like what makes humans human?
I love this film and its trilogy, and I would definitely recommend this to someone interested in sci-fi or war movies as it shows the cruelty of war and power.
