Guts by Raina Telgemeier

This autobiographical graphic novel tells the story of Raina’s experience with anxiety in middle school. When Raina wakes up one night with an upset stomach, she assumes it’s just a bug. But afterwards, she begins to struggle with an extremely sensitive stomach and panic attacks as well as friendship problems.

Guts was a great read. The plot was very interesting, the graphics were really well done, and the dialogue was entertaining. Raina’s struggles seemed very genuine; the author did an amazing job of turning her experience into an intriguing story. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in graphic novels, especially those who are experiencing anxiety.

If you enjoy this, and are looking for other graphic novels, I would suggest checking out Smile, Sisters, Drama, Ghosts, and The Baby Sitters Club series, all of which are also by Raina Telgemeier.
