The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.A. Schwab

“The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” is a historical fiction novel that spans over centuries. It begins when a young woman, Addie, in 17th-century France strikes a Faustian bargain with the devil to live forever in a moment of desperation; however there’s a catch. She is cursed to be forgotten by every person she meets. After navigating through centuries of loneliness and solitude, she finally meets a man who remembers her.

I loved this book so much. The pacing at the beginning was slow but necessary to understand the characters, Addie and Luc (the devil), and their dynamic. This story is a powerful tribute to living a fulfilling life and finding meaning. The ending was so surprising and extremely satisfying and made it worth sticking through the slow-paced beginning. Overall, I think this is such a unique take on a fairly basic plot and is definitely one of those stories that stick with you.
