Burnt [DVD]

Burnt is a drama PG-14 movie about an ex-chef (Bradley Cooper) who has burned bridges with a lot of people in the past. One of these people happens to own the restaurant he plans to overtake to obtain his 3rd Michelin star and showcases all the trials and tribulations of doing so. The movie does well with introducing the characters, I could follow along with the story. However, for a 90 minute movie, it seemed very slow. One reason I think it’s a slow movie is that progression doesn’t really pick up until the final 20 minutes of the movie. This wasn’t the case in terms of the main character, the ex-chef, but all the other characters behaved and acted similarly towards the start. Overall, I enjoyed seeing the ex-chef work through the problems despite tough beginnings, while building a strong team of chefs. I will recommend this movie to anyone who has enjoyed Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, as there are a lot of similar themes. If you aren’t interested in cooking or Hell’s Kitchen though, I can’t really find a reason for you to watch this movie.
