Kids love storytimes, but why should kids have all the fun?  Come relax at Grownup Storytime:  listen to a couple of short readings — short stories, essays, articles, excerpts and more. Then enjoy a chat about what you've heard. Bring your lunch or your knitting, or just take a break from your busy day. Beverages provided. Free to adults.  Drop in; no registration required. Mondays September 9 through October 21 (except October 14), at Sydenham branch, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Are you a senior interested in writing a memoir? Are you able to commit to two hours a week for five weeks to attend a hands-on writing workshop? (Plus another two to three hours of homework per week!) Author Jean Rae Baxter will meet with a small group of seniors to show how to write about life experiences using the tools of fiction. By the end of the fifth week each participant will have a memoir to share with friends and family. Every Thursday at 2 p.m. from October 3 through October 31 at the North Frontenac Telephone Company (NFTC), 1019 Windwood Drive in Sharbot Lake. Seating is limited, so please register in advance online or by phone, beginning 9 a.m. Saturday, September 21.  KFPL membership is required to attend this workshop.

What did you think of them then, and what would you think of them now? What books do you wish you had read at that age?

The Apollo 11 mission is arguably history's greatest achievement in science and engineering.  Join amateur astronomer Frank Hitchens as he commemorates the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's "one small step" from the Eagle to the lunar surface. Hitchens will also pay tribute to the people who made it happen — more than 400,000 engineers, scientists and technicians.
