Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey

It is 2100. Humanity has gone on to colonize the solar system following the creation of a highly efficient fusion engine design. Earth is home to 30 billion people, Mars is an independent political power, and the rest of the solar system is settled by space dwelling humans known as Belters. Despite having conquered to solar system, the rest of the universe is too far away to reach in a human lifespan.

Leviathan Wakes is a rigorously scientific sci-fi story set in the later future. It starts off on the ice hauler "Canterbury" and follows a few of its crew members who get involved in a conspiracy that could affect the path of the whole human race.

The two authors (James S. A. Corey is a pen name) portray a scientifically accurate setting with deep political intrigue and a scope that seems to never end. Excellent writing brings each character to life, giving them distinct views upon the world, presenting the reader with many conflicting points to agree with. Leviathan Wakes is a suitable book for any reader that enjoys longer and more complex novels, but some intricacies will leave a greater impression on sci-fi fans. People who want other books like this one should check out the rest of The Expanse series, as well as the Salvation Series by Peter F. Hamilton.
