1984 is a dystopian novel by English writer George Orwell. The book has had a widespread appeal ever since being published on June 8th, 1949. Despite the novel's old age it has become even more relevant today. The novel tells the story of Winston Smith and his attempts at having freedom in a world where the government's only goal is to guarantee that everyone has none. The novel takes place in a future where the government sees all, controls all, and knows all. This compelling premise and its excellent characters and writing carry this book throughout its entirety, and it's heavy themes and morals cause the reader to be thinking about the book even after putting it down. I would recommend this book to everyone but especially those who liked other dystopian novels such as Brave New World By Aldous Huxley. To conclude, 1984 is a masterclass in writing that deserves its spot among the world's greatest pieces of literature.
