Antonio, an antisemitic merchant, takes a loan from a Jewish moneylender named Shylock to help his friend Bassanio win a girl’s heart. Both Antonio and Shylock agree on a bond where if Antonio cannot pay the bond, he has to give Shylock a pound of his flesh.
The different types of genres in this movie are romance, comedy, melodrama and drama. Characters like Shylock and Antonio are casted well. Notably, Shylock’s actor could have acted better in different scenes, like when he is crying about his daughter. The characters were well developed, we got to know each character’s motifs, beliefs and who they are in general. The movie followed the play/book, and some scenes in the movie could’ve been more developed to make it seem more like a comedic scene rather than them just talking. The story of the movie was great, it touched all the stuff in the play/book and utilized all the plots of the story. There weren’t any storylines that were left untouched. In general, the movie wasn’t bad or great; I liked some parts of the movie better than others based on how they performed and the way it followed the play/book was a unique idea.
