On days like this
when pavement
is the colour
of the saturnine sky
& every car is a
predator, November
wind strikes
like a whip &
I'm cut to the quick
by the clerk's
derisive stare,
I can't deny
the cruelty &
contempt
of the world,
can't shut out
this newly acquired
knowledge
my new-found
understanding
of you.
