I found an old joy journal containing handwritten entries of enjoyable moments, like crossing an empty intersection alone in the early morning. Seeing ducks on the water, ducks in the grass. Taking the garbage out to the edge of the yard under the stars. Hearing the other side of your voice laughing for no reason. The evening light against a wall, a stranger’s kind wave, the softness of Pablo’s fur. Breathing the air one day. Breathing the air another day.
About this Poem
Jason Heroux is interested in seeing what your "joy journal" looks like. What sort of images and moments and memories would be in there? Please send an example of a page from your joy journal to poetlaureate@cityofkingston.ca with the words "Joy Journal" in the subject line. It can be a poem, a list, a paragraph ... anything you like. A few submissions may be selected to appear as upcoming posts on the Poetry Blackboard.
