Sept. 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a time to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and their communities. It is also a day for reflection, learning and action. This booklist offers stories and resources that deepen our understanding of Canada’s colonial history, celebrate Indigenous voices and knowledge and encourage us all to engage with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

What to expect when weather impacts outdoor programs
Warm weather is here, and more KFPL programs will be happening outdoors! This means that weather and air quality can cause last-minute changes to our event calendar. Outdoor programs may be relocated and will often be cancelled when:
- It is actively raining or there is active thunder and lightning.
- The temperature or humidex is 36 degrees Celsius or higher, or KFL&A Public Health has issued a heat warning.
- KFL&A Public Health issues an air quality advisory due to high levels of pollutants in the air that bring a risk to health.
The decision to cancel a program will typically be made on the same day, and cancellations will be posted on the KFPL website, event calendar and social media. We encourage you to check online or call the library for the latest information on our programs.
When outdoor programs are running as usual, don't forget to prepare for weather conditions! We suggest a hat, sunscreen, and water on warm days to keep cool and comfortable.

Use Libby to discover and share interest in titles not yet in KFPL's digital collection
KFPL now offers a new feature in Libby, OverDrive's mobile app, that helps you find all the content you’re looking for, even if it's not yet in our digital collection.
There are two ways to access deep search:
- Your search finds no titles in any of your saved libraries, or,
- Your search results contain fewer than 100 titles, and you manually turn on the deep search filter.
Libby will show results from your saved libraries and the wider OverDrive Marketplace catalogue. From there, you can borrow or place holds on titles from other saved libraries, or if the title is not in any of your libraries’ collections, you can select Notify Me.
Selecting Notify Me sets up a smart tag in Libby that alerts us that there’s a request and alerts you if one of your libraries purchases the title. Learn more about how it works here!
