Library resolutions to make (and keep) in 2023

Balloons and confetti with text reading Make These Library Resolutions in 2023

2023 is almost here, and we have a few suggestions for resolutions that will make your life better and are easy to keep, too!

Get a library card

KFPL is open, full of great things and staff to help you find them, and best of all, it's free. If you don't have your library card, make this the year you get one. We've made some changes, and a KFPL card is easier to get than ever, even with limited identification or no permanent address. Youth over age 14 can get their own card now, too! If you have your card and love it, why not tell a friend to get one too?

Use your card more often

While we all love books (and we're happy to help you find the perfect read!), they're just the beginning of what we offer at the library. Stream documentaries or learn from unlimited Great Courses on Kanopy, améliorez votre français avec Cantook Station, read a comic book or graphic novel on hoopla (yes, they count as reading!), learn a new language, read a newspaper online, dive into your ancestry, try a video game before you buy it, launch your career with LinkedIn Learning, or book time in the Create Space and release your inner creativity.

In 2023 we're switching to Libby by OverDrive for eBooks, eAudiobooks and magazines — learn more here.

Your library card unlocks thousands of opportunities. And again, it's free.

Explore nature and culture

Did you know we lend park and museum passes? Spend time at the local PumpHouse Museum, take a day trip to Ottawa, or hit the trails. Last year, library users saved tens of thousands of dollars with our passes.

Members of Indigenous nations and communities share their knowledge, gifts, and stories with our library community. Our Indigenous Portal showcases Indigenous programming, collections and community partnerships.

Join a program or event

Our calendar is full of in-person and online programs and events for people of all ages. Spend quality time with friends and family, meet new people and learn new skills, and support the people in your community sharing fascinating and wonderful ideas. You can even make and print your own brochure with programs you know you'll love.

Get connected

There's a lot going on at KFPL, and it can be hard to figure out what you want to do, read or explore. That's why we offer newsletters with the latest programs, events, suggestions, news and opportunities to shape the library's story.

Happy New Year! We can't wait to see you at the library.
