The Bane Chronicles are a series of short stories about different events in Magnus Bane’s life throughout the years. Since Magnus Bane is an immortal warlock he has led a very long and adventurous life. This collection of stories allows you to really get to know and understand Magnus, at least as well as you can get to know a centuries-old warlock. A few of the short stories in this collection are: “What Really Happened in Peru,” “The Rise of the Hotel Dumort,” “Saving Raphael Santiago,” and “What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (and Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway).” This collection features stories that are as amusing and outrageous as Magnus himself, as well as stories that are more serious and revealing of Magnus’s character and personality.
This book is recommended for readers who have read The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices series, also by Cassandra Clare, as you will encounter characters (such as Ragnor Fell, Catarina Loss, Raphael Santiago, and Camille Belcourt) from these series in The Bane Chronicles. However, Magnus Bane is a fascinating enough character on his own. Even if you haven’t read The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices series you can still enjoy Magnus’ adventures. However, if you enjoy the Bane Chronicles then I would definitely recommend reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series since they are also written by Cassandra Clare, with her gripping and amusingly sarcastic writing style.
